Hello Everyone! My name is Violet and I have been planning to get a betta fish for quite a while now! I've had 2 betta fish in the past when I was younger, but all of them ended up dying in a month or so. This time I want my betta fish to be happy and live at least a little longer than a month. A few things I want to stay away from are sand substrate and flake food. My tank is 10 gallons. I am planning to get my betta fish on Christmas! Please leave any tips below! Goodbye!

Betta pellets a great way to go for a staple food. Way easier to not overfeed!

Ok thanks! Do you recommend soaking them in water before feeding?

I personally don't usually do so but i know a lot do, supposed to help with bloating.

If you don’t understand the cycling process, read this. . .

Live plants, an adjustable heater, a low-flow filter, decor that is not sharp so betta won't rip up his/her fins, and make sure that you cycle the tank are my suggestions.

Oh, and I recommend that you try to get your betta from a reputable breeder if you can, or a trusted local fish store. If you can avoid big box pet stores, that would be great!

I'm probably not the best beginner to be giving advice, but springtails are a super reliable source of live food. Stupidly easy to keep and especially feed, had mine for about a year and they've expanded into 5 cultures.

I don't have a breeder near me, but I have a freshwater fish store near me with beautiful, healthy betta fish. I also have a low-flow filter from a previous tank. Thank you!
