Geophagus hole in the head disease?

I suspect my geophagus has hole in the head disease. Photos are not the best my camera is rubbish at focusing at thing close up but the little light dots definitely look like tiny holes. This morning he was rubbing himself on the substrate and since then he has just been swimming in the same spot all day. If it is hole in the head, how do I treat it? I've been searching for cures but cant find anything.

Edit: about 2 weeks ago I had to take him out of my cichlid community tank because he was being bullied. His fins were shredded but have recovered quite well since he has gone into my peaceful community tank. Could this have something to do with it?

Hard to tell from the picture but they look more external (he hit something or something is pecking on him) than internal

Theres just lots of tiny holes all over his face with one or two deep ones. I dont think my camera is capable of taking a detailed enough photo because hes right next to the glass and it just wont focus properly. What do you think could be the cause if not hole in the head?

Hmmm. Usually the pits appear in the later stages of the disease and you probably would have noticed a lack of appetite or other symptoms as well. Is he eating as usual? The scratching makes me think it's an ectoparasite of some kind and not HITH, but what exactly I don't know. Metronidazole, if you can get it, may be your best bet.

On my microgeophagus the pits were large and less regular.

I havent noticed any off behaviour until today and he still ate when I fed the tank earlier, and has been eating previously. I'll have a hunt for Metronidazole

The pits on his face look similar to the smallest pits from the photos.
