Geography (Countries) game III - Page 2

Ouse

Correct! Your turn to ask a question, if you like.

Lots of these past questions have been about Africa, so let’s maybe try to consider the other continents too.

Coradee

Ok I have one...

Which European country has an extra 3 letters in the English alphabet?

Ouse

Which European country has an extra 3 letters in their alphabet?
Hmm, I don’t know. I’ll guess Greece?

Coradee

No, try again

Ouse

Is it Russia?

Coradee

No, I’ll try & think of a clue if you need one

Ouse

How about Georgia? (although a lot of it is in Asia)

If I’m wrong this time, I’ll happily take a clue. :)

Chewbacca773

Poland?

I'm just kinda guessing, I know they have a big alphabet

Coradee

No & no...ok a clue

This country is home to two of the oldest theme parks in the world

Ouse

That doesn’t help me one bit. Lol.

Albania?

Coradee

No, another clue... this country is in the EU

Ouse

When I think of theme parks, I think of Bulgaria. It’s also in the EU (the poorest member state in fact).

Coradee

No, one last clue... The little mermaid written by.....

Ouse

I genuinely don’t know who wrote the little mermaid. Lol. I’ll just picture a map of Europe in my head until a country name rings a bell.

I got Belarus. Reminds me of the name “Bella.”

Coradee

You give up?

Ouse

Yeah. You hit me with a hard one.

I bet the answer is obvious. :p

Coradee

The extra 3 letters are Æ, Ø and Å.
The two oldest theme parks are Bakken & the Tivoli Gardens. The little mermaid was written by Hans Christian Andersen there is a bronze statute of her in Copenhagen harbour.
The country is Denmark :)

Ouse

That was a good one. Well done!

My next question: what country has it’s capital city on the coast of Lake Tanganyika?

Coradee

I have no clue I’m out dinner is calling, have fun :)

Ouse

Have a nice dinner!

Frisbee

Famous city in the Middle East. Named after a Canaanite God. Also known as “House of meat”

Ouse

Is it Baghdad?

Ouse

What about Dubai?

veggieshark

Bethlehem.

It keeps saying my post is too short. How about now?

Frisbee

Yes! Bethlehem is correct.

veggieshark

Ok, it is a country of islands though most of them are uninhabited.

Edited to uninhabited. Sorry

Philippines?

Ouse

Is it Canada?

Ouse

Clue doesn’t help me. Maldives?

veggieshark

Clue doesn’t help me. Maldives?
Trying to slow-release the clues :)
The dog is one of the most popular toy dogs.

Ouse

I’m definitely no expert in toy dogs. Lol.

Marshall Islands?

veggieshark

I’m definitely no expert in toy dogs. Lol.

Marshall Islands?
Ok, this island is not in an ocean (Pacific, Atlantic or Indian)

What do you mean? Seas count as parts of oceans, so this would likely eliminate all countries with a coast.

Coradee

Japanese Chin? Japan

SouthAmericanCichlids

Is it cyprus or malta?

I meant not in the part named as an "ocean". It is a "sea". (It is a western thing to call everything an ocean. Other languages are distinct in separating the 3 oceans from seas.) I don't know how else to give this clue.

Just wondering what are the three oceans in other languages? In English it is Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic, and some say the Southern Ocean.

Not in their names, but what is meant by an ocean is clearly understood to be one of those you named. For example, we never say "swim in the ocean" if the water can be named as a sea. For example, if you are swimming in the Meditterranean, you don't swim in the ocean. That's is why I thought it was a good clue. (Of course, I don't know all languages, so I should say there are languages like that.)

Coradee

If my memory serves me.... (it’s been several decades since I was at school & I failed geography) a sea is usually either fully or partially enclosed by land

SouthAmericanCichlids

In case you guys missed it:

Which city was called 3rd Rome?

Coradee

Sardinia?

SouthAmericanCichlids

Sardinia?
No.
Will you take Third Rome as an answer? :)
And, sure!

...no

Okay, another hint, Constantinople was the 2nd Rome and they were the ones to bring it to this cities' country.

Ouse

So somewhere in Turkey...

Izmir?
