Gems in the basement.

I was at my parents house, and went to the basement for something and I found a tank, with all the equipment (heater, filter, air stone, air pump, algae sponge thing, gravel vac, hood/light) soooo guess who has a new (to me) tank?! Now to get to cleaning, does anyone have any suggestions?

Soak all parts in vinegar, rinse very well and fill! Make sure it's watertight! Fix if not!

Just try water with a soft sponge. If you have mineral build up in tank add a little vinigar then rinse with water afterwards. It's probably mostly dust.

Awesome thanks guys or gals! Lol
There's definitely mineral buildup on it.

One more quick question. I might be getting a 150 gallon tank that the hospital recently switched from because it has a crack, are cracks fixable?

Yes! Cracks are fixable but you'll have some work to do and it's never a bad idea to have a backup plan! You'll have to carefully clean, dry and silicone the crack, brace it if it's more than an inch and test it twice to be sure it is waterproof

I would be weary patching a crack on a tank that size. 1200lbs of water plus substrate that's a lot of pressure, and 150 gallons of water on your floor is going to be a big mess. You should see how much a piece of glass to replace the crack.
