In practice, I prefer to use pellet simply because of the ease of storage and use. Unfortunately I don't run enough tanks or keep enough livestock to make even a moderate amount of gel ( I use repashy for corydoras / pleco ) and effectively store it for longer periods of time. Also I find that pellet is easy to take a couple pinches, throw it in the tank and be on your way. However, gel does provide a solution to aufwuchs grazers, and my plecos/corydoras seem to adore soilent green repashy.
I use both, as well as freeze dried, live and frozen foods. I feed the gels to my plecos and Hill Stream loaches, but everyone seems to love it. A high quality dry pellet is my day-to-day staple.
