I have had me GBR for a week now, he's healthy in my eyes, but my only concern as this is if he's getting enough food. At feeding time while the other fish are at the top munching, he'll be at the bottom foraging under the sand for food still (somewhat expected) but put he will never come to the top for high quality flakes or blood worms. I give him chiclid sinking pellets and he'll eat a little before it gets taken by my big catfish. Im just wondering if this is normal for him to not feed from the top at all? Your experiences?
(Edit I am having success with soaking my flakes)**

I had some angelfish fry like that and I observed the same amount of growth with them as the others if he gets hungry enough I'm sure he'll come up

Is he a week old, or have you only had him for a week?

From my experience with Rams.. they do not feed at the surface. They will catch flakes, worms, brine shrimp, pellets, etc that float down to the lower half of the tank. And then they will pick food from the bottom throughout the day if there is extras that settled down there.
