GBR color changes during quarantine

kstots

So I’ve been quarantining these guys for 4 days and their colors are all getting bolder, which leads me to think they are happy and thriving. But their black markings are getting lighter and sometimes almost look non existent. Is this a normal color change or something I should be worried about?

The pics are from Friday morning, Friday night, Sunday morning, and the last two from this morning (Monday). It’s almost hard to believe it is the same fish.

I've had two female GBRs for a year now, and they do that all the time (I think it's called "flashing"). It's usually when they are fighting -- if one is chasing or nagging the other, the fish being chased will go pale like that and then color up again once they've resolved things.

My understanding is that this is pretty normal, and only worth worrying about if one of them is CONSTANTLY pale -- maybe indicating that they are constantly stressed or being bullied.

They don’t go pale, so much as just the black stripes fade and are barely noticeable. The other bright colors stay bright. They are very eye catching like that.

I believe these are a new variation which I’ve seen in multiple lfs’s recently, I even picked one up myself and posted a similar question a few months ago. I think they are a cross between the classic GBR and the gold variation, the black markings will appear at certain times (defending food or territory) but when they’re chilled the black will completely go. I have another “classic” GBR and his black markings are constant. So nothing to worry about, I think they’re a lovely colour - unfortunately mine was a bully so had to be rehomed but it was sad to do so
