Fx4 bubbling sound

Ever since I moved my Fx4 over to my 75, it won’t stop bubbling/sounding like it has air in it. I expected that after it purged itself it’d go away but it’s purged 3x now (possibly even 4, we may have had a 15 minute power outage last night) and hasn’t gotten any better. Apart from unplugging it and plugging back in, can I do anything? The intake part where it connects to the rubber adaptor to tube is fully under water by at least an inch. I hate to unplug it since it’s just been plugged in to a new tank with 2 axolotls in it. (Fx4 as well as 2 60gal sponge filters were used in a 40b with these 2 from October to current without being cleaned (sponge filters cleaned twice each) and was just transferred over to the 75.)

Probably sucking in air from somewhere; either from the intake pipe, valves or the lid gasket.

Unless you have an airbuber near the intake....

I know why it is but everything is under water and no air is getting in. I didn’t even take it apart when transferring it

You said you had been running it since last October.

I suggest to consider cleaning the filter, including the pump assembly and impeller.

Then wipe down the lid gasket, the motor housing and the orings on the male lid intake/discharge ports.

Fluval recommends to use a Silicone based oring/gasket lube and not Vaseline.

I use Danco Weatherproof Silicone Lube found in tbe plumbing section of harware stores and big box home improvement stores. A small tube lasts a very long time and is about $3-$4.

By servicing the filter, you probably will eliminate the issues with the air.

While that’s a good idea considering I have not cleaned it for so long, I also just transferred this filter to a new tank and I don’t want to clean it so it doesn’t crash the cycle. I’ve had 0/0/5 (barely) reading for 3 days in a row now and I know it’s good but the barely 5ppm of nitrate is pushing it to clean the filter. I will mention that after I posted this, I closed the outtake a few times and it seemed to fix it but after about an hour it came back. At about 10pm the same night, I decided to unplug it and after 3x of doing that (the first time helped, second time was better, third time it went away), it’s now not doing it anymore since. I put the intake down lower so that it’s closer to 4in under water where the adaptor connects and i pulled the filter further away because the tubing was in an S shape, and it’s now closer to a C. Next time I have to clean, I intend to cut these hoses. I didn’t when transferring because I thought I would need the hosing because I went from a 40 breeder to a 75.

I will be getting some of the silicone/lube because I don’t have any, but only because I never knew what to buy and I have 2 fx4’s and an fx6 so eventually I’ll need it.
