Fussy little Betta!

I have a (beautiful) male Betta who I got last weekend from appalling conditions at Pets At Home, he's settled in lovely, even building a bubble nest in his new tank but he's so fussy with food!

He refuses flakes, pellets and veggie waffles, the only thing he'll eat is dried shrimp, dried krill and dried bloodworms. Is this ok for him? I don't want him to be undernourished as he's still recovering from the disgusting conditions he was in.

I'm new to Bettas so I do apologise if I'm being silly.

Thanks guys!

Don't worry. My betta just went through 24 days of not eating a thing. Just feed him what he likes, and try to introduce new foods

When feeding dried foods to a betta, you want to be sure to soak them first so they re-hydrate. If not, it can cause constipation, which Betta are pretty susceptible too.

Your betta really should be eating some vegetable matter. You may want to try New Life Spectrum Betta food. It is a high quality balanced food which contains garlic, which really intices fish to eat. Too, you could soak it's flakes and pellets in some garlic juice, which may get entice it.

Other than that, you may have to starve him/her a little before it'll start eating veggies. But when it gets hungry enough, it should start eating them.

Tried him with that, he wasn't interested and I can't stave him, he's under weight as it is.

Well. looks like there's not much you can do at this time other than keep feeding what your feeding. But maybe in the future you can get him to eat more vegetable matter.

I was thinking of trying him with some veggie shrimp waffles. Do you think that would be ok?

I have a betta who will go after sinking catfish pellets(He's in a community tank with cory cats). You could try that. Bettas are mostly carnivorous and the high protein catfish pellets could help him if he's so inclined. Just make sure you get a good brand.

One thing you can do is... Blend shrimp and some veggies together with some garlic and dry it in oven.... You can try feeding that....
