It just depends on the size you like I remove the larger plants when my tank is over run as it looks better.

The larger plants seem to lose color over time and take up more room with roots.

Good question. I just thinned mine out for the first time. I chose saving the largest\healthiest plants and culling the smaller ones. I chose the largest because I liked the appearance. I did this a couple of weeks ago and the population has doubled.

I remove the weak looking ones or the ones that get their leaves bent in. It is a super quick grower. It seems to almost double each week.
