"Shrimp Keeping: An Overview Of The Hobby And Guide To Successful Shrimp Tanks"" By Erik Lucas Presented by GSAS

We're excited for our October speaker, Erik Lucas of Buy Pet Shrimp. His presentation is Shrimp Keeping: An Overview Of The Hobby And Guide To Successful Shrimp Tanks. Location is our usual Otto Miller 109, meeting starts at 7:30. Monthly auction to follow. (more info and directions at GSAS.org)

The presentation will introduce people to dwarf shrimp and teach them the basic requirements and care. Discussion will also include common problems hobbyists run into, as well as touch on some of the higher end shrimp that we are seeing enter the hobby.

Erik writes: I have always been fascinated with aquatics, growing up there was always a minimum of one aquarium in the house. In 2009 I converted a 55 gallon livebearer tank into a shrimp tank after seeing cherry shrimp on the internet. I was addicted immediately and expanded to about 25 tanks within 2 years. Through research and guidance from some of the more experienced shrimp keepers, I became one of the most knowledgeable and prolific dwarf shrimp breeders in the USA. In 2014 I started my website and in 2017 I left my job of 19 years to pursue shrimp keeping full time and to help grow the shrimp keeping hobby. In 2017 I and a fellow American were invited to be jury members at the German International Shrimp Contest in Dortmund, becoming the first Americans to be jury members in a shrimp contest outside of the USA. At the USA International Shrimp competition in Chicago last year my Orange Eyed Blue Tiger shrimp group placed first in their category, and my other entry Ghost Bees placed second in their category. I have recently partnered with Ching Tung Vin Tsay (Vin), one of the most respected breeders in the world, to bring his shrimp to the USA market, as well as learn his shrimp keeping techniques. He is visiting the USA right after this presentation for this years shrimp competition, and I plan to go to Taiwan for a few weeks to get some hands on training in the near future.

The presentation, which is open to the public, will be Tuesday, October 9th, 2018 at 7:30 PM at Seattle Pacific University; Otto Miller Hall; Room 109; West Nickerson Street and 3rd Avenue West.

Doors will open about 6:30 PM for a 'social hour'; the meeting will start at 7:30 PM.

After the meeting, join us for our monthly auction and help to support the club that brings us all our these outstanding speakers.

HI All,

I have heard rumors that that Erik Lucas may be bringing some of his Ching Tung Vin Tsay (Vin) strains of freshwater shrimp to the meeting to be placed in our monthly auction, you do not want to miss this meeting!

Hope to see you there!
