Freshwater Plant "compacta"

I saw this plant at Petco in the plastic tubes with the jell on the roots. It's got green leaves and long slender reddish stalks looked like it would be pretty. I don't know a thing (yet) about plants, I've always had artificial stuff. But with the High Powered LEDS Out there now I am running a planted display tank. Question, how much trouble Is the "Compacta" plant? As usual nobody at the store knew anything about them. Any thoughts ? Right now I have Wisteria, Java Vern's and another fern that they called something else,,,(but I think it's just another type of Java fern, it has red stalks also but fern type leaves.) All are doing well.

Is this (one in middle) similar to how it looks? I'll get a better, current pic in a few minutes.

Yeah sorta. The ones in the store had reddish stems. Although I have been told that to keep red plants red , I would have to add co2.

Mine have a red tint; it's just not visible in the pics. I don't dose co2 or ferts for them. This is my tank that receives sunlight. They do well in it. Can you post a pic?

I can try to post a pic( it usually tells me the file is too large) but I don't have the Compacta yet, just checking. I tried to post pic. Won't go. I'll keep trying.

I can't figure out how to get my pictures in here !!! It says the file is too large. My phone camera takes 21meg pixel s. Maybe that's the problem. And I haven't figured out how to cut it down. Sorry

But yeah, if those stems are reddish, that's it. I have one 36" 5000k LED tube light and an 30" opti-bright Aqueon fixture on a 46 gal bow ft tank with Seachem Flourite Black substrate. I haven't added any frets yet.

My current plants seem to be doing fine. They have been planted about a month and they are propagating. I just was wondering if the Compacta was high maintenance?

Maybe a moderator could tell me how to get my pics in?? Hint Hint

Thanks Coradee, I tried but mine are on my phone, I didn't see a way to do it. BYW I was just starting to have fun on the" Why do people buy fish they don't need" thread when you shut me down. LOL thanks again.

Try screenshotting or cropping it then.

Yeah I've been trying cropping . I just got off the phone with tech support to see if I could "turn down" the pixels, no luck. Thanks for the help.

I have a handful of these in my 20long. My substrate I’m that tank is a combo of Seachem Flourite Black, Flourite Black Sand, and a little Black Onyx at the bottom. Despite all of that, I still give them more Flourite Iron.

After dealing with yellow leaves and no growth for a looooooong time, these things are finally scaling to the tips of my waterline. I’m having to cut them in half and propagate. My stems went green after they became healthy and have a million roots shooting off the entire stem to the first leaf cluster.

I’m using a Finex light and cheap 88g Fluval CO2 on this tank.

I’ll post pics if I can, but I’m confident it’s the same plant because I got my from Petsmart too.

I think it's called "Temple Compacta" don't really know technical term, it's easy to grow, propagate under low light conditions. Mine have the redish brown stems too. I'll get pictures when I get home.

Temple Compacta, Temple Plant, etc. I believe it's a type of Hygrophila.

Download the Mobil app for this site, then whenever you use the app to take pics it automatically sizes them for you.

I reckon that's what am using, if you are referring to the Fish lore site, if there's another app I haven't found it. But I will look on Google play again. Thanks

Very welcome, it's so much easier with this app.

Red in plants is usually achieved by a combo of lighting, iron, and nitrates. Co2 has little effect on keeping a plant red.

Red plants are (mostly) harder to keep, but temple compacta is an easier one. It appreciates root tabs as well as water column ferts.

The 5000k bulb won't do anything for plants, ideally you need 6500k

I guess that's it

I just changed over apps still learning how to use it. My plants are growing, and propagating under a 5000k light.

I changed apps so I could send pics, now I don't know where it went.

I'm not sure if I like this version.

I have temple compacta as well; I find it responds really well to extra potassium. It's prone to pinholes and yellowing leaf margins without it. But all-in-all, a VERY easy plant.
