I recorded this while I was on vacation in Playa del Carmen, Mexico....The staff of the resorts said these were Tiger fish, but not really sure they are. This was off our private dock to our room. Hope you guys enjoy....

You might want to consider getting a polarizing lens for your camera. That will eliminate the cloud reflection and you'll only get what's beneath the water.

Look like cichlids . Tiger fish are a group of viscous big toothed monsters.

Those are cichlids. Tiger fish may be the local name for them.

Ah! A piece of a wikipedia entry on the goliath tiger fish (I was going to show you what Soltarian was probably talking about) says this:

The name "tigerfish" has occasionally been used for a species of cichlid in the genus Rhamphochromis. The species is large, silver-colored, and individuals typically have one or more black lines running the length of either flank. These fish are native to Lake MalawI in Africa. Though, like the other African tigerfish species, they are famed for possessing large, prominent teeth, they are not known to attack humans.

Except...the stripes on those are running the wrong way for Ramphochromis. I dunno. They're definitely a cichlid shape. Probably either a local name or mistaken identity.

EDIT: This is probably the tigerfish he was referring to:

Those actually look like Mayan Cichlids. They are often called Tiger fish in SA.

TigressHill, please add credit for those pictures if they are not yours.

That is what the Butler said when I asked what the fishes were in the lagoon. Perhaps what Rogue said, that what the locals call them=Tiger fish.

Makes sense that they are also Mayan Cichlids since the resort was located in the Maya Riviera

It was taken with a Kodak playsport, I don't think I can add lense to it, I just completely submerge it in water in the first video.

yeah and that is a lot of fry. There were a lot of pairs in the lagoon with their broods. You could the territories mapped out in the lagoon. It was pretty cool sight.

That's awesome you could see that right off your dock.

These rooms were luxurious. Each room had their own private docks. The fish you are seeing are off our dock.

I even saw baby turtles being shoed away by one of the parent fish.
