so, I have a freash water moray eel in a 30 gallon tank with a gost knife fish I belive its called, and a male pineapple sword tale.I was keeping my swordtail in that tank while I was setting up a new tank for him. they were all getting along and then my eel decided to eat my sword tail. I was wondering if the swordtail was toxic? I really love my eel so I'm kind of worried.

thank you

I don't see any reason the swordtail would be toxic ,I think(correct me if I'm wrong) that the eel is a brackish fish not truly freshwater and requires a much larger tank

Welcome to Fishlore!

Sword tails are not toxic. Your eel is going to eat anything it can fit in its mouth.

Have you done any research on your Eel? The scientific name is Gymnothorax Tile. They are not a true freshwater fish, they prefer Brackish. Also they need a much larger aquarium. I believe the recommended tank for proper care is 120 gallons.

You might want to read up what you have your tank

Good Luck!

I know that I need a larger tank hes still farly small, and I'm saving up for a bigger tank. and my friend, graduated in marine biology(also the person I bought my eel from) said it would be fine in a fresh water tank.
thank you though. :3<3

yes I spent a good five hours exploring the internet and researching details and care tips for my eel. I just wasn't sure about my swordtail
thank you~

You might want to get some guppies and ghost shrimp for him to eat. They usually don't like flakes or pellets.

Most fresh water fish aren't toxic, especially livebearers like Sword tails. Nothing to worry about there.
