Fresh Water Aquarium Set Up

Sakthivel

HI Everyone,
I am trying to set up a freshwater aquarium and I am doing fishless cycle with fish food (Tetra min crisps)
Below are my water parameters after 3 days
Ammonia - 1.5 ppm
Nitrite - 0.25 ppm
Nitrate - 10 ppm
PH - 6

Does that mean that my tank has started cycling, Based on my understanding Ammonia and nitrite levels need to peak and go down before nitrate can appear .
I am also concerned about low pH. My tap water pH level is 7.6

Thanks

Unless, you test every day, you'll probably miss the "peak" but I do think that your tank is in the middle of cycling. Concerning your pH, people have found that the pH of tap water changes 24 hours after.
What substrate are you using? Some substrates can lower pH

HI
Thanks for this. I am using a gravel substrate

Let your water continue to cycle and then check in about two weeks or more

Ok , I will measure the water paramters may be every 3 (or) 4 days
Thanks for your suggestions

yup, np. Hopefully your pH comes down to a normal level

Hello Everyone,
Just to update on my fish less cycling( I am in Day 14 of fishless cycling) , my water parameters are
Ammonia : 0 ppm
Nitrite : 0.25 ppm
Nitrate : 10 ppm
Temperature : 27.1 C
pH:7.25

I have seen Ammonia spiking up and going down, but I have never seen Nitrite spiking up, Is this a concern ?

Regards,
Sakthivel
