Fresh tilapia feeding

Had anyone here fed fresh tilapia or just any kind of fresh fish from the grocery store? I'm just curious what kind of fish I can buy, and also how to prepare it so its all healthy for my cichlids.

I was planning on feeding it to my oscar but would it be okay to feed it to my acrican cichlids(malawi) too?

Any info here would be appreciated

I don't see why not. Fish eat fish.

Should be fine. Maybe a small concern with what they may have added to preserve the food, but I ignore that.

I have a blender reserved for making fish fish food for smaller fish by the way, and I would put grocery store seafood in the mix without hesitation.

Sorry to drag up an old topic, I went to my LFS and asked if they had frozen tilapia I could thaw out and cut, they told me not to feed grocery store fish to my fish because it gives diseases.

Is this true because alot of people on YouTube feed tilapia they thaw out and cut up.

I would think that fish meat for human consumption is regulated, and seafood good for humans would be good for fish, but who knows. However, I would not feed meat from fish I catch from the lake down the road.

Yeah I don't agree with feeder fish or wild caught feeding fish, but I'm almost certain that fresh/frozen seafood from the grocery store should be healthy for my pet fish

As a matter of fact, I have some small pieces of bonitos I saved prior to making last night's dinner. I will feed them to cichlids and catfish.
