Frequent Bleaching?

I have a 40g freshwater tank. I clean it every 3ish weeks. Every time I clean it the algae on my decorations is so bad I end up having to bleach them. I rinse them well after, but I'm wondering if bleaching that often is bad for my fish. Thanks for your help :)

If you don't get all the bleach off, yes, definitely. I'd certainly rinse the decorations in water with a good deal of dechlorinator in it, as bleach is mostly sodium hypochlorite. The only problem is that some bleaches have other ingredients that might not be neutralized by a dechlorinator.

I think you need to figure out why you're getting algae in the first place. Too much light? Too much nitrate? Have you checked your parameters?

You might try hydrogen peroxide. It is very effective on algae and it doesn't matter if you rinse every last drop of it off.
