Free Plants (Updated)

7/20/20 Update:

My plan is to get back to shipping plants in September (maybe August if things, hopefully, improve) because I have plenty and I'd rather share with folks here than chuck them, but here's my somewhat most recent update:

Free Plants (Updated) | 449498 | Buy, Sell, Trade, Free

Feel free to send me a note if you think you'll be interested in plants come Autumn, but know that I won't likely respond to much until then.

Hope everyone is as well as can be during these Interesting Times.

5/29 Update:

I have a few plants left to send out this weekend, if you've sent me a request (and an address) via PM I'll try to get a tracking number to you as well when they go or are about to be picked up.

Going to take a shipping hiatus in June I believe, but if you're interested in free plants after that (potentially towards the end of the month) please send me a PM and while I may not reply until mid-late June I will get back to those interested!

Plant List (unless melt or strange happenings occur) for late June/July:

-Salvinia Minima - aka floating fern, ak Water Spangles - I have a bucketful or two, I will ship anyone as much as they want
(Keep in mind Salvinia itself is a banned plant in 4 or 5 states, but only Texas has banned even Salvinia Minima outright, I won't ship it there, and if you choose to get rid of it from your tanks, in any state, please throw it away or let it dry/die in the sun - it's ability to self propagate is great in our fish tanks but not great in the wild)

-Narrow Leaf Anacharis (Egeria Najas) - Great for Betta tanks!
I have a lot of this as well, the more I trim it the more it grows.
I cannot ship it to CA but most other states are ok, Egeria has other types that are not allowed in several states (incl. Oregon) but Najas is banned only in CA as far as I know

-Rotala Rotundifolia (Ceylon as best can be figured out)
This one is nearly as happy as the Anacharis, and grows out rather quickly so I have plenty of it! Great for fry tanks, Bettas, and any where you have some height that needs filling in.

- Hygrophila difformis aka Water Wisteria

- Ammannia (Gracilis & Senegalensis, they are so alike I can barely tell them apart - Red & Orange)

- Java Fern, Trident, Narrow Leaf & Windelov (Plantlets mostly)

- Dark Red Ludwigia (Ludwigia repens) - in small quantities

- Needle Leaf Ludwigia (Ludwigia arcuata) - in small quantities

4/15 Update:

I'm not shipping out as quickly as I'd like (Shelter in Place is causing more upheaval than not in some ways), but I am shipping out for free, to anyone who wants/needs plants.

If you want ANY of these plants over the next 2-4 weeks (that's about how fast I'm shipping out, keeping in mind all the plants are in staying submersed this entire time) please send me a PM with what you'd like, your name & address or email address and I'll respond as quickly as I'm able.

FYI - I do have fish, shrimp & snails in every tank, though some of the plants go through a 'quarantine' here in plant only conditions for app. 2 weeks before I'm shipping, there is a chance they will bring something with them wherever they go (snail eggs in particular, they came to me from the Plant shops and they go out on the plants no matter how much I rinse them) - you may want to quarantine the plants or rinse them in a solution of your choice for cleaning before placing in your fish tanks.

These are all from my current running tanks, not plant only tanks. I’ve had no fish/invert health concerns in these tanks for 6+ weeks.
There is small possibility of hidden snail eggs though I will do all I can to remove them.

As many of my plants are so happy they are multiplying in numbers greater than I have space for in my tanks (and I like to make room for new plants), I’m just going to post the ‘extras’ here - if anyone wants them, I’ll mail for free. I can’t get to the LFS while they’re closed and I don’t want to discard healthy plants.

I’m not sure I’ll be able to locate a bunch of warmers for the packages but I’ll ship priority mail and that should suffice (unless you’re in a snowy region).

-Salvinia Natans - floating plant, short roots, prefers low flow water surface for propagation

-Anacharis - everything plant, can be planted in substrate, attached to rocks, or left floating (Bettas love to rest in this, esp at night) - it will do well in almost any conditions

-Java Fern - can be attached to rocks or just left to sink, easy to grow in any tank, appreciates light fertilizer

Soon:

Water Wisteria

I'm interested in the Java Fern!

I'm not sure, I looked at the website and it wasn't easy to identify (looks like it's on the importer?)

- if you know whether importing the plants is ok, I'm happy to send them that way!

Feel free to PM me with your info, or email address to communicate that way.

For plants it’s got to go through customs. So because of that and I think shipping will be expensive I don’t do it. I say inside the US. Plants would probably be dead by the time they got there too.

yes, I still have a bit of java and a boat load of anacharis and salvinia, despite sending off quite a bit tonight.

And I just got the hand warmers in, so I can toss one in the boxes too!

This weeks been crazy (as everyone knows), and it took me a few extra days to get it all together.

I finally got out most of the previous requests (and there were quite a few), and I once again have a lot of extras to send out.

As I trim and adjust tanks, I'll have in small quantities in the next 2-3 weeks:

-Ammannia Senegalensis (bit orange edges)

-Ammannia Gracilis (bit of pink/red on the edges)

-Red Myriophyllum

-Myriophyllum Mattogrossense

-Nomaphila Variegatus

-Hygrophila difformis aka Water Wisteria

First off, thank you for offering to freely ship plants!
I would enjoy adding some of the floating fern to my tank! Maybe just a sandwich baggie worth, it's close to a 5 gal tank. I am willing to donate toward shipping since you are so graciously offering it for free.

Also, it appears Texas and Louisiana are the only two states that prohibit it. Here's the link for your convenience. https://www.fws.gov/fisheries/ANS/erss/highrisk/ERSS-Salvinia-minima-FINAL.pdf
