Are they hard to keep/breed? Do they carry any unwanted organisms that would be harmful to fish, shrimp or snails? I haven't used them before, just bloodworms.

They are easy to keep and safe for fish. Google microworms you will see lots of videos.
Oatmeal, water and yeast as substrate did best for me so far.

They will come maybe with a little substrate but no. you will need to make up 2 or 3 tubs at your house. Most common methods are
bread, milk, yeast
Instant potatoes, water, yeast
Oatmeal, water, yeast.

And every 2 to 4 weeks you take a small spoon size scoop of your old one and wash out tub and make fresh


I had the best results so far with oatmeal.

Today I am switching the ones I did with bread to oatmeal.

Simple tubs from Walmart w hole cut in top and filter floss to let air in but not flys
