Found a surprise in my tank last night

So, I walked into my room last night and looked in my tank and there was a single baby platy in there. I took it out of that tank, into an established empty one. But, I looked and both of my females still look very pregnant and Its been over 12 hours now and no more have been born. Is it possible for a platy to have one baby then stop and still be pregnant?

It is possible for the momma platies to have eaten the other babies. Did you rearrange all your decor? Babies are excellent hiders.

They can be pregnant for multiple births after one breeding. How big is the baby? How long have you had the females?

Ive had the females for about 2 months. And the baby is tiny. under an inch, I would say.

Has there been a male with them in your tank? If not, they were most likely pregnant when you got them. When I had female they had babies every month or so. The number of survivors always varied. It is possible the baby is a survivor from a previous birth.

Yes, there are two males in the tank right now.

How big are the baby platys when they're born? I'm looking at youtube videos of baby platys being born and wondering how old my baby is after all. lol

They are tiny when born. If there are fish in the tank that can eat them ( this includes the parents), they will hide. While hiding they may not be getting enough food for growth. Stress can also hinder growth, like being chased by other fish. Do you want to keep their babies?
