Found a Julii Corydora fry in my tank!

I've had a 20 gallon tank for 2 years with 4 Julii corys, and have seen a lot of breeding behavior in the past couple months, and some eggs, but didn't have a tank open to get the eggs into to hatch, so I had to let them eat them. Tonight I was removing a handful of java moss because it's gotten out of control, and there not far from my hand, was a small 1/2" long fry! I'm just bursting with joy and had to share!

Last year I put a pair of Peppered Corys into a 10 gallon tank and they quickly laid eggs, then I removed the parents. Many hatched but I was only able to save 8 of them til adulthood; they're spread out between 3 tanks. I've been wanting to do the same with the Juliis but have since added fish to the 10 gallon. The only thing in the 20 gallon are a lot of guppy fry, some mystery snails, 4 shrimps and of course the corys, so it's been a safe place for any fry in there. I hope in time I see more than 1 but it's a good start!

I didn't have a camera with me at the time, was up to my elbows in the water. Called my husband in to look and of course it went behind things before he could see it. Tomorrow I'll be sitting there with my camera hoping for a shot!

Thank you! I have Peppered, Albino and Bronze ones in my 40 gallon tank, but these 4 Julliis in a 20 gallon tank have always been my favorite too! And if it had happened for you, I'd be jealous too! So far I only see one, didn't even see it today but many places to hide. I was cleaning my smaller tanks and didn't spend much time looking... tomorrow is their cleanout day! I keep hoping there's 2 in there, but consider it a blessing that just 1 egg survived, and so did this guy. When I bred them on purpose I was so picky about their food, and this fella made it on its own for a month and thrived! I'm used to guppy fry, but corys are probably only half their size, amazingly small!

I've never posted to YouTube - maybe one of my grandsons can help me, a couple of the boys post things all the time!

I really need to figure out how to do this. I posted it on my Facebook page. He was sitting perfectly still then an adult came up from behind him and got him moving. When I figure it out, I'll put it up. lol

Congrats on the baby! That's so exciting!
We had a similar thing happen to us a few years with panda cories and were so surprised to see a teeny one chilling with the adults!

Aww, pandas are so cute too - I think it's amazing that 1 little thing survives that way! They always clean the eggs up fast and you don't expect them to miss one for 3 days! I'm going to the fish store tomorrow and I know I'll be looking at corys to see what they have. I'll get a couple pandas if they have them!

I do too! The little ones are definitely special They do, we were not expecting to see a baby at all

Ooh fun! You'll have to keep us updated on what you get and post photos if you can! I'm hoping to get some cories again in the near future as well

I'm sure hoping I can also have the same luck and joy you have. I have what I call the cory herd, 8 albinos, in my 55 gallon community. The other day I actually managed to save a few eggs before my brat angelfish (what was I thinking when I rescued that fish, he's sure one obnoxious so and so, lol) managed to eat them and I'm experimenting with hatching cory eggs for the first time. Don't know if it will work, but here's to hoping.

Otherwise, in the same tank is a pair of old green cory's, at least 15 years old and some of the few survivors of a major tank crash a few years ago. I don't know how long cory's live but I just can't think of not having these old timers. I also have a pair of panda's in the 10 gallon shrimp cull tank. They are so cute and I've been looking to add one or two more, just haven't had much luck in finding more thanks of how things are right now.

Anyhow, from one cory nut to another, congrats, you are so lucky.

I think being a cory nut is the best kind of nut!

I went to the fish store Monday hoping to get a couple corys of another breed. Was hoping for pandas. I saw some skunks, never knew those existed! There was something reddish I'd never heard of before but it was in a tank so full of things and a dead fish was near it and really turned me off. They had another shipment coming in sometime but I couldn't wait around. Got 3 more neon tetras and 5 ghost shrimp, frozen food, and left.

My reason for going was to take about 30 guppies to them. That momma who dropped about 60 2 months ago really populated my tank, I couldn't handle them. Had too many males too and just kept 3 favorites.

This is a fun hobby, wish I had room for another tank. Or two! lol

I looked it up and the life span of a cory can be around 5 years if they're taken good care of. Still too short.

Yea, it is good type of nut, I think the only other thing I'm more nuts about is poodles, but I've been poodle happy for about 50 years now, kind of hard to stop at this point, us old foggys tend to get set in our ways.

Go on youtube and type in cory cat, you will be amazed at how many there are out there besides the usual ones you find in the lfs. I could easily get into so many of them.

And you will be surprised at how imaginative you can get when it comes to adding another tank  . I have a small 2 bedroom ranch, 2 large dogs, 4 main tanks and somehow manage to even still have open spaces to move around. It's all a matter of size. My husband hated when I took out the huge entertainment center and went with a tv stand, book cases are a thing of the past. Even so I love my books so I have learned to go up, there is always more room up than actual floor space, aka, decorative shelves for books and nick nacks. Even the too big computer desk my husband insisted on had room for a 20 gallon shrimp tank and I'm trying to think of a way of sneaking in the 3 and 1/2 gallon on the desk as a betta tank, lol.

I don't have a problem with my guppies and mollies getting too populated thanks to my rescue brat angelfish, he picks off the fry before I even have a chance to see them even though there are plenty of hiding places, he's just too good of a predator. When my population get's too low, I have to put the females in a breeding trap and then move the fry into one of the shrimp tanks until they are too big to be angelfish snacks.

Took these pics today of my panda's in the 10 gallon shrimp cull tank. I like how this tank has turned out. It's totally live plant, real rocks and wood, only maybe 4 months old, but everything seems to be thriving.
