Forums are better than social media

I really think that forums are way better than social media, and I mean GOOD forums like FishLore, that have good UI and dark theme and stuff. The reason:
Social media is more of a popularity contest than actually socializing, it's all just trying to get more likes than everyone else so your post doesn't end up on the bottom, on a forum like FishLore, you can ACTUALLY connect with people, actually get to know people, have a fun game of 2 truths and a lie, or something else. I feel like I can actually make friends and get to know people, meanwhile social media just feels like and endless sea of accounts, which I will probably read one comment and then forget they exist. Also social media has algorithms designed to do 2 things: show you ads, and make you spend as much time as possible on them, they're designed to be addictive, not satisfying. FishLore doesn't even have ads. I love FishLore.

Definitely. Though I do feel like social media is a big part of my life tho... ... I agree that Fishlore is literally so amazing. It's helped me so much through all my fishie adventures, and outside of that too. I also love the games, and everyone here's just so nice and supportive, and I like how strangers who doesn't know me at all still help me and are just so kind.

I completely agree! I do not enjoy facebook fish groups, and reddit is a nightmare. Fishlore honestly feels kind of like a family to me... some of you have been there for me through some really hard times and it means so much to me I love this place!

I agree, active and well moderated forums with nice people like fishlore are very fun to be on and it seem like a big fish family. Although I do like other social media platforms like instagram for following friends.

Of course. Where else are we going to find lunatics obsessed with fish like ourselves?

For most social media, no, I am not interested in seeing a picture of the apple pie slice you gobbled down at the diner 2 minutes ago.

I definitely agree with social media algorithms. They suck so bad.
Personally, I think that social media (this probably mostly goes for Instagram) isn’t too bad. You have a lot of control on what you want to see or what you don’t want to see. I feel like a lot of people don’t take advantage of that.

I also do agree that forums are much better places to actually get to know people. Which is actually kind of ironic lol.
What I really like about forums (especially FL) is that people can just get along. It’s so simple

I honestly couldn't agree more! Fishlore is the best forum that I've ever joined! In fact it's the only one, and for good reason! Everybody here is kind, supportive, friendly, sociable, and understanding. They're willing to discuss issues with you without being a jerk, and you're easily able to make friends! You can talk about anything and everything whether random or fish related! I'd have to say, though...my favorite thing about this site is how rudeness is prohibited! Thank goodness!

For me personally, social media has never been a big part of my life. I rarely use it, and when I do, it's to look up pictures of Bettas I sometimes use Instagram and Imgur for this reason, and this reason ONLY. I visit YouTube on a daily basis, watch awesome videos, comment often, and although I appreciate the likes, I try not to get into any mainstream discussions, unless it has to do with pets, of course! Otherwise, leave me out of it!

I honestly can't show my physical appreciation for Fishlore, because it would likely fill up hundreds of swimming pools worth! But I'd like to thank everyone who's recently joined or has been here for awhile! I'm thankful for everyone here, beginners and experts alike! I appreciate everybody's kindness and informative comments, your quirky thoughts, your creative ideas, your support, and your individual character! Everybody here is special! We refuse to follow "mainstream", for that is not what creativity is about! Seriously guys, from the bottom of my wet, slimy, scaley heart, I can't thank you all enough!

Forums are the best part of social media for me personally, Fishlore is the first forum I put myself out and I stumbled on a woman I can imagine spending my life with. Definitely good in my boek

It really depends with the other forms of social media on how you use them, some are great for keeping in touch with friends or family others are used as a popularity contest, it really comes down to the individual.

Very much glad I decided to join here

...but I will happily look at your fish and talk about him

I feel like the moderators are the reason Fishlore is so good, keeps the trolls away, because they know if they say something offensive it will just get deleted.

Yeah fishlore is moderated very well, I have seen some other fish forums that look like there are almost no moderators at all.

Yeah, I sometimes find the mods a little too strict, but it's still overall better than just letting people be jerks and say whatever they want, and i think overall the mods do a very good job.

Fishlore isn't trying to influence me with ads and other junk like Facebook does. Love the forum way more too!! =)

I can't really say if they are or not, because I have no experience with social media other than forums. However, from all I've heard I'd have to agree. I have a cousin who's been known to say "Facebook is the devil!" (He doesn't really believe that, of course, but it gets the point across.)

I noticed that underneath your post there's some other text underneath, yours says "I spent half my money on wine, women, and song; and like a fool I squandered the rest.

Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement.". and other people have them that say different things. anyway the question is how do I make a thing appear under all my posts?

I actually see no big difference between this forum and social media. Fishlore is full of rewarding-mechanisms: the likes, the notifications everytime somebody quotes or likes a post, the upvoting of answers, the "trending threads"-section. In my view those are all mechanisms to create some kind of emotional bond and to feed us with attention of others. Also, this forum gives a lot of space to social interaction, which makes it quite comparable to social media.

Don't fool yourself.

People on FishLore just feel a lot more like real people than most social media. Also, FishLore is designed to talk with each other, as well as answer people's questions about fish. Most social media just has algorithms designed to be addictive, and waste as much of people's time as possible, and show as many ads as possible. While FishLore definitely does have some mechanics similar to social media, I feel it serves an actual purpose other than just being a time killer.

You do make some good points though. But this site just seems a lot more enjoyable, and rewarding to use. Perhaps it isn't better than social media, maybe FishLore IS social media, just a better KIND of social media.
