Foods You Eat That Other People Find Weird

Regional or simply a personal thing.

I'll start.

Boudin. Not boiled. We've never eaten it cooked and my dad and I just learned that it should be cooked first. XD
We always eat it on saltine crackers. It's soooo good.
(It's pork and rice and spices for people who don't know what boudin is.)

I believe it's a Louisiana thing.

What about you guys?

I've eaten a wide range of wild critters. Some of the more odd ones would be raccoon, wood chuck, snapping turtle, and perhaps the oddest.... musk rat.

My personal favorite is deer heart. White tails are everywhere in Michigan, nearly ran one over tonight actually.

Haha, I'm Asian; does "most everything" count? . For the Japanese and Chinese in me, most foods aren't all the crazy unless it's moving, but even then I don't eat it. I guess Balut (fermented duck egg) is really weird; I don't eat it but my mom likes it.

For the Korean in me: anything involving "kimchi" or pickling. jajangmyeon is a weird one (it looks weird but it's really yummy). Here was dinner earlier with my cousin; it's called Yukgaejang, super spicy and sour and just...ya:

Hahaha Theres a bunch of other snacks and drinks to (there is soybean drink I like that turns heads) Elementary school lunch time was a very weird time for my siblings and I

It doesn't have particularly gross ingredients or anything, but when I first ate this in front of my husband he thought I had lost my mind: peanut butter and cucumber sandwich. Sounds like an odd combo, but it's amazing.

They sell them in a candy shop in San Francisco. They aren't bad; I only had the candy part itself (which is good lol...it's sugar) but my bro ate the scorpion and cockroach)

Pig tongue, pig ears, duck feet (don't like those, too less meat), chicken heart, cow liver, fermented duck eggs (if you do come across it, don't eat it with any flavoured drinks or it will taste very weird) , salty? chicken eggs, duck wings, stinky tofu(okay, there isn't really a translation for this but if literally translated its this) , snails and almost everything since I'm from China.

I have a feeling I wouldn't need a flavoured drink for the fermented duck eggs to taste weird to me.

I will never forget the day I made a sandwich that I copied from my grandma. Strawberry jam, cheese (the real stuff or cheese slices) and a hard boiled egg on a bun. He was utterly repulsed.

It is SO about region. I love ham and pineapple pizza but apparently Europeans find it repulsive. I'd find probably about 90% of asian/Korean/Chinese/Japanese repulsive. But I'm not a big fish eater. If you tell me it's meat but don't tell me where it came from and *I* can't tell, then there's a good chance I'd try it. That's how I tried bison tongue. tasted good too

Most Asian delicacies are weird and I question so many things they decide to eat. Like, who smelled the Duran and decided "ya, that'll be good"

You know that place I only go in there for the lava lamps and other unique things that are LAVA LAMP related.

I'm glad that I had something good before I joined this thread

Heard of it. If it wasn't for the fact I'm a little allergic to milk and just thinking about something that rich would make me sick, I would so try it.

Most people don't drink it. It's common in cooking, but not drinking. I like it straight up in a tall glass glass, ice cold. I also like buttermilk soaked cornbread.

Aren't those the ones put into molds in japan and then sold at really high prices?

I used to be 2nd hand where even when I ate meat years ago it was very little and nothing weird so I knew I was ment to be vegetarian because it wouldn't be a hard change and never turned back ever since
Also just love alllll animals!!

It's a bit like drinking yogurt and milk mixed together. Maybe. It's hard to describe. Most people do not drink it. But I also like potted meat and Vienna sausage, so I'm obviously not a food connoisseur...

Durian? I'm white and I love it. The guy at the boba shop makes fun of me. "YOU LIKE THAT?"
It smells like feet, but is addictive for some reason.

Pretty much the ONLY way you'll get me to willingly eat veggies is straight out of the garden, covered in dirt and spider webs. then I'll scarf veggies. My friend and I were helping her folks clean out her garden. We are probably half the carrots that were under 4 inches long. And this is one of those huge, entire back yard, half an acre, gardens. We ate SO many carrots...

I just can't wrap my head around how ridiculously expensive it is. Even fish people morals aside, WHY would you want to eat something like *that* when it has *that* big of a price tag?!?! It's *fish* eggs for crying out loud!

I eat a lot of sardines - maybe a can a day. Probably not terribly healthy but I think they're delicious. Girlfriend thinks I'm disgusting, but what can ya do?

I also like dog treats and kibble. I don't sit down with a bowl of it and watch a movie, but when I feed the dog I'll toss a few down the hatch.

Don't judge me.

Seaweed
Growing up half asian and living in China for six years made me pretty open to a lot of foods, but seaweed is A+
Dried seaweed is good for a light snack or with rice during a meal, and seaweed salad you get at sushI restaurants is also super good.

One time when we were younger, my brother and I were at an ocean camp, and eating dried seaweed was one of the "challenges." We scarfed them down

Reminds me of a Steve Irwin quote.
"If it's good enough for the camels, it's good enough for me. Or is it, if it's good enough for me, it's good enough for the camels." Taking about carrots.

I'm Chinese, like KinsKicks indicated there isn't anything we've already seen. I've seen people who would grab a snake and just cut right down the stomach and eat the contents out of it. I've seen a old lady at a village in China with a pot and the cow was peeing in the pot, later that night we ended up at her house and she cooked soup.

What my white friends think is weird is that we'll eat macaronI for breakfast or instant noodles for breakfast...

I've never had durian before, but my worse experience as a teenager was when we were at a Denny's and my mom asked the chef for a knife. Pulled out this durian and cut it right there...never saw a restaurant empty so quickly in my life...

Liverwurst. I love it with hot mustard, sharp cheese, and German pickles on toast.

Also love fried chicken gizzards, and rice with some soy sauce and a raw egg.

Fashooga durian is actually my favorite flavor of bubble tea!

Tripa. I love it if it's made right. Most people don't make it right. I learned to make it so could make my own tacos.
Love Sushi, but a lot of people do, so maybe that doesn't count? I do LOVE wasabI though so maybe that's weird?
Whole cows milk. I think it tastes good. I used to buy it from a rancher and boil it and voila!
Oysters, but they have to have chilI and lime.

Here's the really weird one I think. I like chewy meat. Like if I make chicken wings, I cook mine longer so the meat is a little bit chewy, same with porkchops etc...It grosses me out if the meat is too moist. However I love a medium rare steak. I'm a walking contradiction.

This just reminded me. I love Braunschweiger .

I'm sure durian is good...hear it tastes like onion pudding or something...

I went to a wedding in Hong Kong one time, wife's friend...the cake came out and I took one bit of it and I looked at my wife and she saw my face and gave me a napkin to spit the cake out..."What's wrong honey?"

"You try it."

She eats the cake...

Durian cake...

BOBA!! Hahah, the lifeblood of anybody who's ever had it. During finals week, ah geez...the lady's at the shop learned my order and were like, "just take it girl" haha

One of the most questionable things ever is maggot cheese...somebody needs to explain thatead:

I love seaweed and my daughter does too. Made for an interesting time at school lunch one day. lol
I like it by itself or I cook some white rice and roll the rice in the seaweed and lightly salt it. Yummy!

It looks like we've all got a bunch of 'weird' foods that we like!

I know another regional one is crawfish. Some people I know from northern states think it's weird to eat them. But they're so good if they're boiled right! The only seafood that surpasses crawfish for me is lobster. But only if I make it; it's not worth $30 at restaurants when I can get it for $5 a tail at HEB. XD

I eat ketchup on scrambled eggs and homemade tacos.

My dog loves raw lettuce more than steak...so there's that.
