I’ve seen a lot of conflicting articles online about what’s best to feed them... wondering if anyone’s kept one successfully and what yours seems to eat?

Gold Nuggets are serious wood munchers. Good rich woods like Malaysian or Mopani will do nicely.
An occasional algae wafer & sinking cichlid pellets will round out the menu.

Mine never touches the wood. It doesn't even like hiding in the wood, preferring flower pots.
Raw zucchinis is what it likes to eat. It hated blanched zuchs and everything else. After months it still has a shrunken belly but actively eats zuch so maybe that is just their look. It is not a plump pleco. I hope to get it to full size in the next 5-10 years. I put in 4 big slices of zuch for it and the 2 eaters daily, so I hope the eaters are not chasing it away from the food. I may have to start putting in 2 zuchs a day.
In the wild they suck the green goo(aufuchs[?]) off of rocks. Mmmm green goo.
