Fluval Spec V: Petsmart online sale

Hello all!

I've been looking at the Fluval Spec Five gallon tank since last year's Black Friday sale. It is expensive but now on sale at Petsmart for around $30 off until February 10. Regular price is $99, on sale for $79.99 with extra $10 off and free shipping.

Question: Do you own this tank, and if so, what do you think of it? Is this a good deal?

Pretty cool looking tank... What are your thoughts about stocking?

I've had customers tell me they like it. Filtration should be similar to the AquaClear filters.

Not sure on price comparisons from elsewhere without looking.

Would be pretty cool for a betta maybe?

Yes, I am thinking one betta. Or maybe some kind of nano fish but I would need to do some more research to see if there are any species that would work in such a small tank.

I am just wondering if I should "splurge" on this or not.

that size might be good for 6 endlers. Would have to wait for one of the endler keepers to let us know though. That would make for a neat little tank if so!

I have one housing a betta. It is great! The filter is nothing like an AquaClear though. It is a sump style if you can call it that. Even on the slowest setting, the return pump is too fast for a betta. You'll need to make a couple cuts in the tubing. You'll see what I mean. . The compartment for the filter is just big enough to hide a heater, too.

Does anyone know if you can swap the led bulbs on these for 5k or 67k plant led's ?

Well, I just bought this aquarium for my wife for Valentines. Hope it will be perfect for her first betta

The Petsmart sale was to good to pass up.

So is the filter is too strong for a betta?

Cichlidmac you believe it is a good deal then? Maybe I should just get it....

The reviews said to add a sponge pre filter around the intake to slow current and it works great. Yes considering it's fluval and has led lights including a moonlight I think 69 bucks isn't to bad. It's cheaper than I can find on Amazon so I went for it. A new xbox game is 60 bucks so that's how I justified it :/

Headed to Petsmart during my lunch break today for some other things... I am hoping I can resist this. What I really need right now is a hospital/QT set up and that can be accomplished with a $12 10 gallon and some parts I already have... But my impulse buying -- hey this would make a fantastic GOOD looking QT for small fish! lol

I hope the store will match the online price.

If your store is like mine they won't... even though it is all petsmart >_< annoyed me to no end one day...

unfortunately it's just a part of business. you have to offer online exclusives from time to time to keep the website portion profitable. If it's not, then there is no reason to offer online sales.

Great news...I went to Petco and told them about PetSmart's online sale. They said they would match it. AND...I had $5 in PetPals rewards and they used that as well. So total cost before tax was $64.99. Woot! And I got it today.

Wow that's great- I didn't know petco price-matched, especially online prices!

Nice score with petco. I ended up not getting anything at Petsmart and only spending $10 at Petco because they had NLS food there!

Thanks! Yes I figured I had nothing to lose by asking! And the guys there know me, so I got blessed big time!

Bonefish anytime you can get NLS it is a good score, too.

So far I had been unable to find it local, I must have overlooked it at Petco. I didn't know what the packaging looked like.

My crazy fish only like frozen and cheap not good for them flakes. Hoping they like this.

More on topic... headed to some locally owned shops tonight after work and may still end up giving in and coming home with one of those fluvals! lol

Still can't decide if I want to spend the money on a nano saltwater setup or go freshwater. If I go freshwater I still don't know what to stock lol.

What??? You have a pair of agassiziI in a 5 gallon?

You should probably explain to Donnerjay why you can't do that, it would probably be helpful for her as she makes her stocking choices.

I wouldn't keep Apistogramma AgassiziI in anything less than a 20 gallon. If they spawn in a 5 gallon tank there is a good chance they will murder each other. Sometimes the female will allow the male to help brood but not always. The male will reach 3 inches and needs way more swimming space than a 5 gallon can offer. These are one of my favorite fish and I encourage you to try them, but not in a 5 gallon aquarium.

Here is an old pic of mine when I first got him I need some new ones.

Cichlidmac, I'll PM you with questions if you don't mind, don't want to hijack a thread.
