Hello from Milwaukee WI. Newb to Saltwater and reef keeping. Just wanted thoughts on the Fluval Spec V for reef keeping. I've seen it done on You Tube but wanted your opinions.

Thanks.
J.

Have you kept a saltwater tank before? If not, it would be much easier for you to start with a much larger tank. Small Saltwater tanks are very challenging.

I can do 50-55 max. Would that suffice?

That would be much better! A 40 breeder is another good beginner size.

It can be done, but you would need to add at least one power head as the length of the tank is too much for the provided return pumps. The flow at the far side of the tank is nearly non-existent leading to detritus buildup and dead areas. Even if my freshwater setups of these, I had to add either a Tetra 3I or an airstone to the far side of the tank.

If you are interested in trying a pico reef, the Fluval III is a much better shape.
