Fluval Fx6 And Medications For Ich

I have a fluval fx6 (with all the stock media that came with it). I need to treat the tank for ich and it says to remove carbon from the filter.

Does the fx6 come with carbon or anything I need to remove? All I remember was the foam pads and bio media.

Just wasn't sure if there is something in the fx6 that needs to be removed.

Yeah it comes with carbon. You need to remove it when you medicate since that's one of the only things it does is remove medication. Perfect opportunity to ditch it for good.

Perfect thank you. Sounds like a good idea to get rid of it. Should I put something in its place such as a polishing pad?

Id do more media like lava rock. You should already have polishing pads in there.

I would try to treat ich with higher temps. Raise your temp to 84f and add an air stone to the tank before adding meds to the water column. When finished do a deep gravel vacuum and water change. I have treated ich this way a few times with success.

Agree.

Raising temp + aeration + frequent substrate vacs/water changes is some of the best Ich treatments.

If you do go the medication route, Kordon Ich Attack and Kordon Rid Ich is some of the more safer and less harsh meds.

Kordon's website has a lot of info on their different meds.

Thanks everyone. I ended up using the meds and it seems like it has treated it. I did put carbon back in just to get rid of any traces of the meds but will get some lava rock.

I really do love the fx6 and all the media it can hold.
