Fluval 306 Or 406

Hi,

I have a Fluval F90 35 gallon tank and it comes with a canister Fluval 206, the tank is now running since september and I added my first fish like a month and a week ago. (11 White cloud )

I will do my first water change this weekend.

My tank is planted and now I have dead spot of 30-40% of the tank on the left. There is a massive oily film that staying there and not moving at all.

The flow that coming from the 2 nozzle seems weak ...

I was thinking of replacing the 206 for a 306 or 406.
For the price range I was thinking about the 406, do you guys think the flow will be to "powerful" for my 35 gallon ?

Thank you.

I have the Fluval 306 on my 46 and have the output turned down some because of flow. I know the GPH is good for my aquarium so would be more than ample for yours; I don't know that there is a reason you can't go larger, though.

So, if I'm getting the 406 I will need to turn down the output because the flow will be to powerful ?
Because the price range between the 306 and 406 is not that big.

My LFS have the same fish tank and they are using a 406 and the output is fully open

Update:

Here some photos of the top of my tank.

If you're just looking for more flow, maybe look at some powerheads. A lot cheaper than a 306/406.

I got a friend who have a Fluval CP3 we tried it but... I was to **** powerful.
Maybe a CP1 or CP2 will do the job.

But.. I don't really like the look of having a powerhead into my tank
I already have a surface skimmer so, my tank will look packed :/

This is why I was think of selling my 206 and use that money to buy a 306 or 406.
I have a Marina 75 air pump, some says I can use it with a spray bar ?

I'm all for more filtration but it sounded like you just needed some extra flow. I have a 306 on a 40 gallon breeder and it does a decent job of circulating water around the tank but any more than that and my plants would be sideways.

Well, ive got a friend who can sell me a brand new 406, he said there is a difference of 20$ between the 306 and 406.

I think ill go with the 406 and see what happens with the flow and circulation on the surface.

I will sell my 206 and pay the difference for the 406 !

I will post an update when I get it installed and running.

Well, after my first water change and did the maintenance on my 206, the flow is now stronger.
I think the filter wool was indeed needed to be change.

But ive got a friend who can sell me a brand new 306 only for like 120$ (CAD)
I will think about it and if I'm buying it ill post another update !

save your money and get a sunsun 304b. They are $78 right now on Amazon and filters 525 gallons per hour. I have had one running for a year and the thing is amazing for the price. Water has always been crystal clear.

The Sunsun 304b is good up to 150 gallon, I think it will be a bit to much for my 35 gallon.

My 306 is running fine with a nice flow right now but thanks for the recommendation
