Fluval 207 canister filter for Juwel Rio 180

I ordered Fluval 207 canister filter today for my Juwel Rio 180. Currently it has the Juwel filter that comes with the tank. Would I be able to remove that one from circulation after a while or should I leave it in there?

Depends on how stocked your tank is, but personally I’d leave it in and have the two filters running. I have an older 206 and I don’t think a 207 would be sufficient on its own on a 180litre tank (my 206 is on a 100 litre tank with a supplemental internal).

Fluval rates the 207 for up to 45g or 220L (which equals 58 gal, huh?). They need help with their math...

I always assume that the manufacturer is overstating the filter capacity. Or they are probably testing it with ideal conditions and minimum head.

I have a 207 on a 29g (110L)

Different measurements of gallons - metric V imperial.

Manufacturers often quote their figures based on no media too. Once you fill the baskets, hoses etc, it does drop quite a bit.

Fluval specifies US gallons. They say 45 US gal or 220L. Or am I the one that needs help with math. :(

220 L = 58 us gal.
170L = 45 us gal.
204 L = 45 Imp gal.

Fluval: “just make it up, they’ll never know!”

Oh well, I still really like the filter...

And to get back to MCMastered's question, I agree with carsonsgjs

Hello all,
Second question relating to this. I just recieved the 207 and it is now installed.
Question is how should I orient my output nozzles. At the moment I have Fluval output pointing from left to right in a slight upward direction and Juwel inbuild from right to sort of pointing to middle front slightly upwards. Should I point Juwel nozzle slightly downwards to increase flow towards bottom?

Also, should I add some bacteria in to the system or will it populate the filter with existing bacteria over time?

I think having the flow on the opposite sides of the tank is a good idea. When I ran a similar setup, that’s what I did although I had the output pointing upwards rather than down. The new filter should pick up some nitrifying bacteria after a few weeks - I wouldn’t worry about adding any extra.
