Flourish Excel... To use or not to use

Hello y'all. So I am doing a low-tech setup for my 10 gallon tank. Eventually when my tank is stable I want to add red cherry shrimp but for now I have fish in the tank. My question is if Flourish Excel could be used to supplment my plants in the tank. Currently I am stocking Water Sprite, Water Wisteria, amazon swords, fern, anubias, java moss, dwarf hair grass, dwarf sag and single strand of anacharis (everywhere was sold out and I manage to snag a piece at petco and its been growing). Anyways my plants have been melting a bit because they have been just introduced, especially the swords. Do you think excel could help out the plants a bit?

Currently dosing Flourish excel.

Excel is normally used to control algae. Too much is harmful to both plants and live stock. It does an effective job on algae but so do guppies. Guppies are good at solving all problems.

I can't tell you if you should or shouldn't use it. I use it now and then which is the worse possible thing to do - either use it or don't but don't over-dose if you do use it. To be honest I've mostly stopped using it about 6 months ago and only pour it directly onto a few hot spots. Well nto pour but squirt. I rather have algae than other issues.

None of your plants are particularly sensitive though i would not pour the stuff directly on your moss

I had a blossoming black beard algae issue a few months back and started using Excel as I heard that it could help. It did help and killed the BBA pretty quickly.

Having said that, jake37 is absolutely correct in that you have to be careful not to overdose it. Consistency is a key as well as he also alluded to. I used mine daily for a couple of weeks and did less than the recommended amount.

In my experience before I added co2 to my tank I've never really noticed any plant growth benefits. I've managed to defeat most algaes in my tanks and used to use it to kill BBA which it does pretty effectively especially when spot treated. Now that both my tanks are basically algae free I still dose it twice weekly as an algae preventative.

I have read up on how this was mainly used to control algae growth. I am battling hair algae that I found on my java moss but I think I have just decided to not get excel. Thanks y’all

Excel is not fertilizer. Get a good "all in one" like EZ green or Thrive C. You have to feed the plants to out compete the algae.
