I bought some Taiwan moss that got to me a little after Thanksgiving. I had it in a 10 gallon tied to needle work mesh, with 12 neons that I need to move, along with anubias and crypts. no light on the tank just sunlight from the south side.

anyway it started to die in spots so I moved it to my bettas tank that has a 25 watt bulb. it is doing better. so would flourish comp help?

would florish comp help my java fern and anubias out? the java fern keeps dying, and anubias in another tank, gets holes that slowly go brown around it.

I also have flourish iron and root tabs. so what would help? and how much flourish comp do I add to a 10 gal tank??

oh and, do root tabs work in sand or not?

THANKS FISHLORE!!!!!!!!!!!

I find it a bit odd that your Java ferns and Anubias are dying in your tank, as they normally are incredibly hardy plants.

That being said, Flourish comp will help, I don't know by how much those, as both are pretty low-maintenance plants. I think it's important that you just keep pruning the leaves with brown spots or look dead, as the plant can grow new leaves, but it can't recover damaged ones.

Since both are rhizome plants, I'm not sure how much root tabs would help.

On another note, pictures may help us diagnose the exact nutrient deficiency your plants are facing, although I'm guessing something along the lines of phosphate.

What kind of light are you using? Regular incandescent lights don't do much for plants. I use this in one of my planted tanks and I've seen a huge improvement in my plants. They aren't cheap but seem to work pretty darn well from what I've experienced.

My Java Fern, and Java moss are doing great! My wysteria is going crazy and filling up the tank. I also dose very lightly with flourish after every water change.

the tank with javafern just gets natural light and the tank with the anubias also. I think the problem with the anubias is from the other person I got them from, and just the leaves haven't died.

the only tank that has a light is the bettas 5 gal. the light is a petsmart 1.50 bulb. I'm pretty sure it's incandescent.

so I guess I will does with the flourish comp. How much though per 10 gallons will say?

Probably just to the first thread on the cap. You don't want to dose very much because you don't have a light on it all the time. The more ferts you add, the more light you'll need.

Sounds like the anubias may be going through a potassium deficiency. You may need to add the Flourish Potassium component to bump up this level in your tank.

Root Tabs in sand works great. Helps the root feeder plants.

If your light is incandescent, replace the bulb with a CFL. Not only will this add more light to your tank, but it will help the plants too.

okay where can I get one of those bulbs?

I didn't think root tabs would make that much difference but a few days later and all my crypts perked up, getting new leaves, and there is a new plant in need to propagate off the other.

oh and is it okay to cut a root off the crypt wenditi? there is one that is probably a foot or more long, it come out of then rocks all the time.

You can buy CFL's at any grocery store, if you have a standard socket. I bought a two pack of store brand (Publix) CFL's for $6. Each bulb last 8000 hours. Just make sure you get one that one that the replacement watts aren't higher than what your hood can handle.

For example, my hood can only handle 15 watts, so I bought a 13 watt replacement. Its puts out a much higher equivalent, though. That's what makes it so cool =D

Yup, root tabs are awesome for crypts

I linked a bulb a few posts up that works in place of a regular screw in tank bulb.

okay thanks for the link.

I will try to get one, but its time to buy fish food and bird food, which gets expensive.

so I added some flourish comp. to the 5 gal, and the 10. I guess we will see how it goes. in the 5 gal I did a full cleaning and rescape. I could barley get the anubias out of the gravel.

Regular CFL bulbs from the grocery store work just as well, and are much easier on your wallet
