If you are planning a vacation trip to the Florida Gulf Coast over the next several weeks, I highly recommend that you change your plans. We are presently experiencing a red tide outbreak of epic proportions with massive fish kills from the Tampa, St. Pete area southward.

Trust me, beach activities are not recommended at this time.
I don't want you to be sick or disappointed.

Freinds down in the Port Charlotte Harbor area said its really bad in their area. You can still come to the Emerald Coast for vacation, we aren't having any of those issues.

This is terrible!!!
Trust me, living on the island is not all it's cracked up to be.
I don't intend to go through this again.

I loved camping on the beach in socal during red tide. the waves glowing in the dark was so cool. really stinks (literally...) about all the dying fauna though. the beach was always littered with dead clams.

That's not good at all, there's going to be a lot of people out of work. There will be some fishing guide companies going under and the flow goes down stream from there. Restaurants, hotels, etc...

If I remember correctly you all had a bad outbreak of red tide last year, is this the same bloom or a new one?

Really? That's incredible! I lived in Florida for about 15 years and do not remember one ever lasting that long, or in this case not dying out within a year. That is very alarming!!!!

Right now it's better then nothing, it may take years for the fish populations to come back in the affected areas.

That is horrendous. I wonder what would happen if someone where to gather up some of those dead fish and take them to Tallahassee, and then perhaps after a few days up to Washington DC. No, on second thought, that's really a bad ideal, but it just might get someone's attention.

Theres a good chance most of those fish are mullet judging by the size and coloration.

I'm done with Florida
Just as soon as this wretched red tide has subsided and the clean-up is completed...our house goes up for sale and we're moving back to the fresh mountain air of Raton, New Mexico.

As for me, I prefer the mountains

I'm sooooooo wanting out of Florida, but it's really difficult to sell an upscale home on the water these days. I can hardly wait for this nightmare to be over.
