Flood watch in my area and everyone is moving out. What to do with w/fish

Its been raining for 2-3 days straight and some areas are worser than others in which water has entered homes and even covered cars in. Some people are being rescued by boat. Here it isn't that bad but there's a small river and bridge you need to cross before entering home. Its about 3-4 feet before overfilling and going onto the streets/home. If we have to evacuate what do I do with my fish? Option 1- Take them in a bag(they will probably end up dieing. I don't have another battery powered filter or air pump.) Option 2- Leave them and hope for the best. They are 2 fancy goldfish. 1 oranda (4 inches) and 1 black moor (2-3 inches) and some ghost shrimps in the 40 gallon.

HI Nighthawk
Hope the rain stops, the floods recede and everyone is ok.

I don't have personal experience with this so maybe soe one who does will see this thread.

I think an important question is when /if you evacuate where will you go and will you get out before being taken out by boat.
If you'll stay with family or friends perhaps you can take the fish and accommodate them the best you can. Perhaps keeping them in a large tote. This may also work if you're going to a hotel.
The next option is leaving them. Do a large water change. They should be ok without food for a while.

Good luck and stay safe!

If you can move everything I'd take it with you. If not I'd leave everything. The power will be out for a while but it's probably your best bet unless you have breather bags.

Probably gonna catch all kinds of fire for this one, personally I'd just let them go. It's unlikely they will survive the flood, but hey, I am all for giving something a fighting chance, and yes I am aware of what can happen when you release a non native spieces somewhere.

If you are aware of what happens when you release aquarium fish into the wild, why would you recommend doing it? It's illegal first of all. And this seems to happen annually now. https://www.wzzm13.com/article/news/local/michigan/pacu-in-michigan/294427992

DO NOT LET THEM GO PLEASE! It should be fine if you leave them alone, like Wraithen said.
I wish you the best of luck with the flood, sending happy thoughts your way.

Hi! Please make sure you and your family stay safe! I would just leave the fish, try to change water and do the best you can before you go but make sure you are safe first.
