Floating Anubias Ok?

Can you float anubias without it dying?
I tend to keep my anubias unplanted, either tied down or wedged between something.
Could I keep my anubias tied onto a small rock and just place it down on the substrate?

Absolutely! I have mine just weighted down a bit with a rock, but the roots are all over the place. The fish love them for hiding in. Since anubias has a rhizome, you shouldn't plant that part or it will rot and die.

Okay, thank you!
I never planted my anubias, learned the hard way as a newcomer.
Would other thick leafy plants be an issue to blocking light to smaller plants?

I suppose it depends on what the smaller plants are. If they're low light ones anyway, it's probably not a big deal. Like if you had a smaller anubias below a large one, it would probably be ok? Not sure if that helps!

I have big java ferns, and a small amazon sword.

The Java fern will be fine, I haven't had swords so i'm not sure on that one - maybe someone else can chime in on that one.
