Float or plant anacharis?

I use to have anacharis when I first got my tank and I heard it can either float or be planted. I have sand in my tank so planting it was hard so instead I wrapped the bottom in the metal it came in to sink it. The plant started melting and eventually died.

I want to give it another shot. My tank is much more mature now. I love the look of a long kelp like plant but I am wondering if planting/sinking it is okay

It's okay to plant it, but IME it doesn't root down like a normal plant or grow neatly straight up like kelp, it branches out and starts growing long roots from the middle of the plant to anchor itself down.

I struggled to get anacharis rooted in my tanks, it always seem to melt away.
Till I began letting it float a few weeks until it started growing white water roots.
Then I add plant weights and anchor it in place. Mine grow straight up like kelp the look I was going for till I trim them, but once trimmed start branching

I float it in my betta tank. Some of it sinks down a bit but mostly it floats. My betta loves swimming in and around it, sometimes uses it to anchor himself up near the top.
