Flaring For Attention?

So, I just noticed that at times, when I’m looking at his direction from my bed(the tank is on my dresser on the opposite side of the bed and higher than the bed so he can look down on me), he will look in my direction and flare at me. Then he will swim off for a bit. Then he will come back to that side and flare at me again. Then, when I get up to go see him, he stops flaring and swim at the front of the tank where I am and seemingly follow where I’m at or my finger on the glass.

Now, when I see him flare, I usually get up to see what the matter is. Did he get smart to it and uses his flare to get my attention when he wants me?

Also, I noticed when he sees me at the tank no matter what, he will sit in place and his flippers will go like fairy wings. Like increase in speed when he sees me.

It's possible! Maybe he sees you moving and gets excited? Often when I'm sitting at my dinner table and my betta sees me, he gets really excited and flares, moves around a wriggles, etc. Even though he still wriggles when I'm there, he usually doesn't splay out his gill plates.

Fish definitely know who their owner is and it sounds like he likes you! Mine follow me as far as their tank allows whenever I walk by and my girls start trying to jump up out of the water at people when they look in the tank from above

I just find it adorable. It’s like he knows that when I see him flare, I will always check on him. It’s almost like a child calling out to a parent.

It could also be that he sees his reflection in the glass and flares at it.
