I was in the tropical fish businesses for a total of 34 years and was completely burned out on the hobby. I didn't have a fish tank for 18 years and then my friend (that's in the trade) offered me a 360 at a price I couldn't refuse!! The tank was manufactured by ATM ( the guys on the TV show tanked) The whole tank was built of 1" acrylic and was 92"x24"x36. It had it had 4 -2" holes drilled in the bottom and 6- 1 1/2" holes in a center overflow. It Had a painted black back with a blue center overflow and lots of scratches! It was ugly, but basically a real well built tank. So with lots of buffing and patching holes and inlaying black acrylic over the back I had it ready to start the build. It took some research on the equipment, because I was out of the hobby so long, but I finely figured out how I wanted to build it. The first thing I did was use the overflow as a DIY built in filter. It holds 5 gallons of bio balls, 10 pounds of ceramic rings, 15 pounds of carbon and some sponges with a 1600 gph pump. Then I went with Hagen equipment because of they're good track record in the industry. So the list of equipment and décor:
4 FX 6 canisters 975 gph each
4 cp 4 circulation pumps 1375gph each
2- 4 foot fluval 2.0 plant and fish LED
1000 watt Ista heater
600 pounds of Mexican bowl rock
300 pounds of blasting sand
140 African cichlids
Custom stand and canopy
I grew all the fish from 1" to 2" into adults, here are a few pictures.
