My 10 gallon has experienced a fishy smell before. At the moment, it does not smell this way. However, the heater on it does smell fishy. What would cause that? Also, this heater is older. It is an Elite brand. Set at 68F, it has been making my water be 80-82F. The light indicator was still on at that point... I just changed it back down to the next setting (64F). What would cause the temperature so high? Maybe it is just a crappy heater because I don't think there is a 66F option - which would get my preferred temperature of 78F achieved. Could it be room temperature (that is only 67F right now and is about the maximum I aim for allowing the house heater to hit)?
