I was going to do a poll, but couldn't think of the relevant responses.
(As a mod, I can't recall this topic being discussed)

Since joining Fishlore, what do you no longer spend money on, that they said you need to?

I'll start:
- Replacement cartridges for Eclipse Systems
- Aquafin Cycle

Cartridges are the main thing for me.

I've got bottles of Stress Zyme, water clarifier, and algae killer sitting around gathering dust. I've got AquaClear charcoal pouches somewhere, too, since I only use it if I have a specific reason in mind.

Filter carts lol

Definitely cartridges, as I only change them out every several months or longer, instead of the "monthly recommendations". But also water clarifier and quick fix chemicals.

I think Aquarium Salt is a godsend, why do you think it's worthless? It helps cure lots of stuff!

I don't use meds, except for Kordon Rid Ich Plus in an emergency (treats lots of stuff) and I just never use salt (by the way, I never said it was "worthless"). Many of my species cannot tolerate it, so I took it off my "fish stuff" shelf.

It reduce the cost in water conditioners, switched from Tetra Aqua Safe to Prime

However, it also increase the cost in fish...I've been introduced to new fish that I would never bought before

1. Filter cartridges.
2. Various chemicals to fix the imbalance caused by changing cartriges.
3. Livestock from the die-off associated with the crashed cycles caused by changing cartridges and adding unnecessary chemicals.
4. Ibuprofin for me from the above.

I think that covers everything...

pH adjusters. How did I miss the big one for my area? I'm pretty sure that every pet store in the Twin Cities has stock in pH Down.

Filter media for sure. I haven't bought a filter cartridge in several years now, I always make my own.
Never did use the aquarium salt.
Oh oh, ICH medications!

Filter cartridges, mainly. Most petco "Aquatic" plants too. I haven't bought water clarifier or medications for ages- it's nice, having a healthy tank. I hardly bother to look at the fish at Petco anymore- I wouldn't buy them anyway, because they're so sick.

Gravel, Cycle, meds, cartridges, test strips.

I use sand now, but gravel is fine if that's your preference.

When I first got into the hobby, my local fishstore pushed the use of Cycle, they used it on all their tanks, even put some into the bags as they got my fish in them and the lady at the front before you checked out would always ask us "Got the cycle and the declorinator for your aquarium?" to which I'd always reply yes to save them from lecturing me as to why everyone needs it (the Cycle, not declorinater).

Pre-made/manufactured filter replacements, cloudy water treatments, carbon/charcoal, and gravel.

Replaced with cut to fit fit media, never use treatments (nitrogen cycle known), don't need carbon, like sand better.
