Fishless Cycle with Fritz Pro

I’m doing a fishless cycle on a 40 gallon. 2 pieces of spider wood and several different plants are in there.

I’m using fritz pro, seachem stability, prime

Fritz PRO - Ammonium Chloride - 500gm

Instructions say that it’s
1 level tsp = 4.5g = 100gallon

Day 1:
Dosed prime. Put in a sponge that I had floating around in another fish tank, not in the filter but just in the water

Then I put it approx 1/3 tsp to see what the ammonia reading is. Ammonia came up to be 1.0ppm.

Day 2:
I wanted to get ammonia up to 2-3ppm
So dosed another 1/3tsp and added stability’s
8hrs later, ammonia is 0.5ppm
But
Nitrite 0.25ppm
Nitrate 5.0ppm

My tap water also has similar nitrite and nitrate reading and it also has ammonia

Am I doing something wrong here? I can’t get ammonia higher

Add more ammonia. The seachem stability added somew of the nitrifying bacteria and it's processing the ammonia like it's supposed to. Put in 2/3 tsp. Wait 15 minutes and retest. As the bacteria processes it, it will drop, nitrites and nitrates will rise.
Retest every 24 hours and redose to 2ppm. You really don't need to go higher than that unless you plan on overstocking your tank.
Do you mean Fritz pro dechlorinator? Prime dechlorinates, use one or the other, you don't need both.

Fritz pro ammonium chloride. I couldn’t find the dr Tim’s you told me about and I was impatient so got the fritz brand instead. It’s powder

I’ll add 2/3 right now and see what happens

Ah, okay, I understand now lol! Fritz pro is a brand name that makes a ton of 'stuff'. It wasn't clear what Fritz pro product you were referring to. Keep us posted!

Would it be because of prime that it’s not picking up ammonia readings?
