Fishless Cycle Confusion!

Hi, just wanted to give you a quick update! My results from the last couple of days from 1ppm of ammonia being added 24 hours before...

Yesterday- 0 ammonia, 0.5 Nitrite & 60 ppm nitrate (approx)
Today- 0 ammonia, 0.25 Nitrate & 80ppm nitrate (did approx 50% water change)

I’m feeling happy that the nitrite seems to be dropping now... do you think there’s a chance I’ll be fully cycled by Friday? I’m getting a Betta then & would love it to be complete!!

Thanks

A most excellent chance! You'll want to get your nitrates down to <20ppm before you put him in there. Great job!

The tests have continued to be perfect zeros all week! The ammonia is processing within less than 8 hours if the Seachem alert is anything to go by. So think I’ve got a pretty strong cycle nitrates are above 40ppm so planning to do a 50% change tonight & another 50% in the morning before we go to get our fish (don’t want to change all the water at once as I don’t want to disturb the plants & decor). So exciting!!

I have a bottle of Seachem stability (unopened) from when I thought it wasn’t going to cycle. Do you think I should still dose this daily? Or will it be a waste/ mess up current cycle? I’ll be dosing with prime every 48 hours as a precaution.

Thanks

If your tank is processing the ammonia and nitrites to 0 in less than 24 hours, save that bottle of Stability for your next tank. Congrats!!

Since the bottle is unopened, I would just return it. You don't want to add the Stability now, because if the Stability starts converting ammonia, it will starve out the bacteria, since ammonia is it's food source.
