Fishkeeping worries?

HI all,

I'm curious if you have any fishkeeping worries and what they are?
You can use multiple worries (if you have any, imagination welcomed)

I'll start first: (Though I have three worries)

Since my first day of fish keeping I have been worried that my tank will suddenly collapse and water will spill out with fish in it on my floor and that all the fish will die.
Later on, without tank collapsing and water spilling , I developed another worry. I was worried to fall asleep every night, thinking that either the filter is spilling or the filter will break the glass and that, and again, water will spill out (possibly causing fire lol) so I would be up from my bed every night and turn on the lights and check for everything, for any water spilling, but always everything was in its best condition.
Oh, and whenever I would hear any fish jumping out and in the tank, I always come up, turn on the light and check if any fishis missing, always.. nothing.
I'm such a worry pants
Your worries have to be real, but you can make up your worry/worries.
Just use your best... imagination..

Additional worries:
- I'm also worried that my betta boi will get burned by his heater - these things can get flaming hot!

Your worries are my worries- but with the following added:
When your tank breaks and there is water all over the floor you try to mop it up, you realize everything is soaked because you had a slow leak for years before the catastrophic failure, and now there is mold in your house- not the bread kind- the kind that requires a call to your homeowners insurance and kills people, dogs, cats and the rest of your fish lucky enough not to be in the exploded tank. I can raise worry to an art form! Maybe we are related!

Ok, challenge accepted! Here is one that’s different! I worry that while I am asleep or away the airline tubing will disconnect from the sponge filters- its happened before ( but alwsys when I was home). And of course, I constantly worry that my heaters will explode or fry the fish...

So true! In my case I actually would agree with the heater, but different. I am worried that my betta will get burned..

But wait- there’s more! I wooey that I forget to put in water conditioner when I do water changes, and worry that fish and shrimp will get entangled and die in
- hair algae
or
-thread used to tie fown moss and plants
or
- the roots from my pothos plants

That's a good one to add- those things can get really hot to the touch!

It was during our move and the mermaid has a hole in the bottom and it got knocked over when I moved the tank I didn't think about it then and just left it, we werent living on the property then. Went back the next day and didn't see him pulled out most o the decor and found him lodged in it. Now I'm nearly in constant view of the tank so I just made sure it was lodged deeper. I'm just trying to give the pretty decor a second chance since I wasn't aware of the possibility.

Could you plug up the hole with something? Filter floss or something like that? Or glue in gravel?

I haven't been able to get any safe glue yet. I was actually going to glue some mesh to the bottom of it so water can still go through.

That would be much better.

Have confidence everybody. Bad things do happen no matter how well you try to avoid them. No sense to worry. I live by the philosophy "I'll figure it out & take care of it". No fear.

My sister grabbing my fish

My main worry, of course, is the tank breaking and getting water everywhere. The tank is near a lot of plugged in things that could short circuit and start a fire, or fry the fish, or whatever else bad things go wrong.

I fear an ammonia spike that I don't notice til the fish are dead.

I fear the heater breaking and I don't notice til the fish are frozen.. and dead.

Oohh! I have to agree on this one. I worry about my heater overheating and frying to death my betta boi. Okay this one is slightly surrealistic....

My sister grabbing my fish
Yeah, the social life, I wish I could have a sister my age (15). I wouldn't have to be alone in the house while my mother is working or whenever I'm in school on break or lunchtime, as I'm alone.. always.

Though I don't have anyone else, I do not have to worry, and I have a lid so my cat doesn't try to get my fish.

My biggest worry is probably something going wrong with my filter! My dog drinks water very loudly so I've woken up a few times in the middle of the night in a panic before realizing it's just himead:

Another one is that the drive home will be too rough for the fish and they'll die before I get home with them

Oof! I have to agree though on both. I've been woken up once by my cat, and today I have been woken up by my filter, it was spitting so I've completely put it under water

Ahh I understand that feeling all too well. I am a single child with just mom, and although I am now 23 I still remember being alone all the time when mom was working. Never turned the lights on or opened the windows, just sat on my computer gaming. Not healthy xD

Well if I can give any advice, make sure you open a window and turn the lights on. It did wonders to help my depression when I finally figured that out in college haha
