Fish tank of doom... So many symptoms, expert needed!

Well I had my first fish death yesterday and my heart broke because this is my first fish tank and my favorite guppy passed. Left for work, had fed them where everyone was eating and swimming normally and came home to realize he didn't greet me. Found him dead in the anacharis. Full color, someone bloated, eyes a little bulge like, red blood vessel clear on stomach.

Did a pwc after giving him a farewell. Noticed my favorite electric ram (juvie male) didn't come out. He loves water changes. Found that odd. Went to bed. This morning he didn't eat breakfast-now extremely concerned because he's a pig! Went to work. Came home still no sign did another pwc and found him not looking too great under a cave. Red thin line protruding from anus. Maybe a worm? Maybe from the mixed color tropical flakes. Fed everyone some garlic soaked bloodworms (dried). He ate it up then went off to hide in the aracharis. Now I'm freaking out I will not let him die on me! Ran to pet smart. Figured a general parasitic treatment of antibiotics couldn't hurt. Dosed the tank.

Later this evening my emerald Cory came to greet me. Haven't seen him in a few days. His tail looks like fin rot!!!! Only on 1 Cory though. Barbels or whatever they're called are normal, belly fins side find and dorsal fin all normal. Only his tail fin looks like it's decaying off of him!

Now I'm angry because I've put a lot of time and money into these fish and way too many emotions for most people since no one around me can understand why I'm upset. I have no idea what the heck is going on. My remaining 2 guppies seem ok but anxious because they know their friend died. Other ram (female) is eating like a pig normally and acting normal. My creepy platy who loves to scare the out of me sticking his head out from plants is normal. Neons are normal. What the heck is going on??????

Currently cycling a 55 gal and feeling very upset with this 20 gal high community and what is happening. I have no clue what to do. No one seems to be exhibiting any signs or symptoms of one problem so I don't even know what I'm dealing with! All water parameters are normal. Even my nerite snails stopped moving like they know the Black Plague is coming for them! Please help I'm at a loss and way to new to be diagnosing fishy illnesses.

 

What are you using to test the water? What are the exact values? Can you give a full list of tank inhabitants? Can you post a pic of the one with possible tail rot?

 

What is your water change schedule and have you done anything new in the past 2 weeks like a filter media change or a new plant, anything that could have introduced something unwanted?

 

Water change schedule is 40% every 2-3 days. 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and 5 nitrate. Tank is fully cycled. Using API master test. Tank has 2 guppies, 5 neons, 2 electric Rams m/f, 1 platy and 2 emerald cories. Temp at 79

he won't stay still for me to take a pic. My one orange guppy is now going translucent towards the base of his body near the fin. My tank is heavily planted and the only new item introduced within the last 2 weeks were nerite snails, 3.

Ram am is more active since dosing API general cure and he's eating more. Still has clear poo with something very thin and red sticking out. Doesn't look like a worm? Who knows.

I feel like I'm battling columnaris, fin rot, and calamous worms??

 

It's possible something was being carried by the snails did you add any shop water? I would take it slow don't add med's for everything at the same time it will be too much and could cause more harm than good. I would suggest leaving the general cure in the water (did u remove any carbon) for a week and monitor. Good luck

 

couldnt capture my gup. My platy doesn't have the typical fin rot his tail is still there but going translucent at ends. Yes removed carbon. Dosing general cure again tomorrow. Soaking food in garlic currently to help boost their little immune systems. I guess what should I be looking for as far as them getting better if anything is working? And also what should be my next step?

No shop water adding. Drip acclaimation and then netted the snails in.

 

In that case it may be unrelated, it's very hard to tell, hopefully once treated it won't return, just check packaging as some meds can kill inverts (ur snails)

 

I'm going to finish this dose of general cure. I've got fenbenzadole on the way and will wait 48 hrs before soaking their food and trying for the internal parasites. If that doesn't work I suppose I will attempt to treat columnaris. Ugh!!!

 

Crush the heck out of the fenbendazole. It doesn't like to dissolve very well, the little tiny chunks won't dissolve so you've really gotta get it into powder. How are you measuring out your dose? It's .1 grams or 1.5 grains per 10 gallons so you need a very accurate scale.

My ram still had a red thin line from his anus however reading the symptoms of c worms makes me believe it isn't the case because he isn't bloating at all. Could it be something else? Would another internal parasite keep him skinny? And will fenbenzadole work for most internal worms?
