Hi my dad is going to buy a 40 gallon tank and wants me to help him set it up.
Anyone have any suggestions for some fish he can put in the tank? He doesnt want agressive fish and a community tank sounds like the best option.
    Thx in advance :)

A single Angelfish would be a nice centerpiece.
How about a large group of cory cats?

I second the Cory cats. They're an adorable fish.

    What about something like this?

    1x Angelfish
8x Sterbai or Bronze cories (choose one species)
    1-2x Blue ram (or variant)
    8x Black neon tetra
    8x Glowlight tetra

I might steal this for when I get a big tank

Other options for cories would be:
    C. adolfoi, acutus, duplicareus, gossei, haraldschultzi, oiapoquensis, seussi, and splendens. Like TD says, one species only.

Other options for middle-dwelling schoolers would be cardinal tetras, diamond tetras, or rummynose tetras.

Although keep in mind that large angelfish can eat the smaller tetras, so it's a good idea to buy them (angelfish) when their young, and small.

Thank you for all the suggestions.
He lives in south america but im going to see him next week so ill try to find the fish hopefully they have them there :)
Hes liking the idea of one angel fish and the cories but im loving the gouramis since i already own one (im biased ;))

Well whatever you do don't mix gourami and Angels, I don't think those are compatible, though I could be wrong >.> lemme check on that.

EDIT: Yep they aren't compatible because they're both a little aggressive and they don't match temperature requirements (angelfish are very picky and want 82f and gourami don't really like water much above 80f)

Gouramis and angels can be kept together. 82 F is the high end of the angel preferred range. and many gouramis can be kept in the same temps.

I have a DG with my angel with no issue. Pearl, moonlight, and honey gouramis should also be fine with angels.

Yea i dont think i will mix the gourami and angel
My gourami can be pretty nippy so i dont want to risk it

What type of gourami is it?

  17. aleu18Valued MemberMember

    I have a dwarf gourami

I think you'd be fine to mix a DG and an angelfish.
