As a part of my UnI course (Arts/Science double degree), I'm studying Microbiology for a semester. Anyway, we have an assignment due in a few weeks which is basically 500 words on a topic to do with microorganisms (500 is such a pathetic amount, I'd much rather do 1,500 and address the topic more thoroughly *SIGH*).
Our lecturer suggested emailing her if we want to write on anything besides the suggested topics. Well, I have just sent an email requesting that I do my short essay on the nitrifying bacteria needed in our aquariums I gave her a very brief plan of what I could include, such as the bacterial structure of the two bacteria species as well as ideal environmental conditions and their roles in ammonia and nitrite conversion. I also asked if I could briefly discuss the importance of the bacteria in sustaining the micro-ecosystem we try to mimic in our fish tanks. Before I fired off the email, I checked out my libaries database for potential journal articles I could reference. Most seem to be from verterinary science and ecology journals, but hopefully more searching will bring up a more microbiology-specific articles.
Anyway, I am really REALLY excited now to do this essay! Hence why I am posting on fishlore instead of dancing around my house and waking up the family
I will be shattered if she tells me to choose another topic, but I think I've made a pretty strong case
So, fish-keeping is helping me with my studies now, rather than distracting me from them
Gee, I sound like such a dork posting this, but I am just so excited I have to do something about it!
