Yes, I tried this the hard way when my Betta needed to go into QT without me being prepared and then again when my husband brought home a little Betta girl.
Added plants, heater, sponge, hiding places and mainly did daily WC. They both did well...

Yup just do it like a normal tank. Test, water change with Prime for protection of the fish. If Ammonia or nitrites get above 50 do a 50% water change. With a fish in its just more water changes than fishless, because you have to keep the ammonia in check where in fishless you don't. ;)

You mean .5ppm Ammonia, correct?
