Fish Hiding by Filter

I have had my 2 male guppies since Thursday and they seem to have taking a liking to the filter? They will hang out under and behind it for long periods. When they do come out, they swim around and seem happy.

Is there something I should do about this, or are they still just getting used to my tank?

10g, it has been set up for a week with no fish and ammonia is 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm, nitrate 5ppm

Have you tested your water source for nitrates? I'm assuming that you did not previously cycle the tank. Possibly get a bottle of TSS to cycle it?

How did you acclimate them? Large change in pH can effect the behavior of fish for some time. They could also, like you said, be getting used to their new surrounding.

I added a bottle of TSS to my tank yesterday, and I acclimated them by following directions I had seen on the forum; adding a little of water from my tank at a time to their bag and floating the bag (I did this about an hour).

They have been coming out a little more now, but still liking the filter.

Probably like you said then. Do they come out when the tank light is off? sometimes that can deter fish in new tanks and the filter has a decent amount of shade.

That was my first thought, and I bought some more fake plants for shaded areas which I think made it better. They do seem to swim around more when the light is off.

Should I leave the light off, or should they be getting used to it?

I'd leave it on however long you do daily so they get used to it.
