Fish For Petco 5 For 5$ Sale?

I saw the sale on the ad, that selected community fish are on sale for 1 dollar each. Went to local Petco but no luck. I thought they would have at least platys, mollys and some tetras included. What did you find on sale in your store?

 

No, just no. A Petco fish introduced both TB and camallanus worms into a tank of mine some years ago. Total disaster after year of meds, rebuilding with the ones that survived the TB only to lose the remaining to the camallanus worms. I buy almost nothing in pet stores nowadays.

 

Most LFS, PetCo and PetSmart get their stock from the same 3-5 wholesalers, Segrest Farms being the biggest. I have 10 PetCo's and 10 PetSmarts within 10 miles of me and there are 2-3 of each that I would buy fish from. The others aren't as well managed or as clean.

Point is, you can get diseases from anywhere so having a QT is very important.

 

I totally agree! I've bought many fish from petco/petsmart and while they occasionally do come down with ich, etc, they do so in a QT tank and I am easily able to take the fish back for a refund and or treat without a problem!
I've also have problems with lfs stores as well - like its been mentioned, they all pretty much come from the same supplier ----- there's only so many out there so it must be the store and the condition of their fish, etc that is the concern.

 

The Petco store in my city is actually pretty good and well maintained. Also I'm setting up the tank so there's nothing to lose now. Want to figure out what's on sale and if it is worth another trip. I want to get some guppies and neon tetras.
