Fish fell in?

So I'm am getting my Betta used to the tank before I fully put him in and his cup has an opening on top so he just swam out? I put him back in his cup, hopefully, some of his cup water would still be in his cup and I made sure the lid isn't in the water. He looks ok, so I don't think he went into shock and he's pretty active. He's my first fish so I just want to make sure he's ok.

I wouldn't worry about it. If you search fish acclimation on YouTube you will find many well respected people who feel that acclimation is not needed. I figured that there is no logical way that just dropping them in would be better then slowly acclimating them but they have strong arguments and years of experience yo back them up.

Accidents happen, and your betta will be fine. I completely understand being stressed about your first fish, and bettas can be expensive depending on the tail. I hope you enjoy the hobby!

Awe man did he get wet?
Sorry couldn’t resist. I’m sure he will be fine as long as the temp and PH were relatively close.

Yeah some people don't even acclimate fish.

to be honest a lot of the time I do too. With shrimp or something I will acclimate slowly but a hardy fish - I ca mn get home within a few minutes from my LfS. I pop them straight in and I’ve never had an issue.

I don’t like the idea of them being in a bag and trying to swim away and not being able to blah blah blah.

I was told years ago by a LfS owner it’s best to immediately introduce them to the new environment when you can - assuming temperature and parameters are on par. If it’s been a longer drive I acclimate to ensure close temperatures otherwise if temp and such matches in they go with a ceremonious plop.

I always turn off aquarium lights - and also was told years ago to place them on the bottom so they know where they are... seems strange but I do it in anything larger than a 50g

Just to be clear, I’m 90% certain that they don’t acclimate, because it’s more important to get the fish out of the ammonia-filled bag after shipment.

Yes they have a whole video on what they do when they get fish in.

That might be interesting to watch, I’ll try and find that. Thanks for letting me know.
