Fish Feeding Tips

I've been feeding my two dwarf gouramis daily around 6pm. I've noticed last night they ate all the food I gave them so I put a little more in. Later on in the evening I noticed one fish eating algae wafer that was sitting at the bottom of the tank. Am I underfeeding my fish? I'm feeding them enough to eat then if I see no food I feed abit more. I'm feeding a mix of krill grain slow dropping food and tropical algae flakes

Fish will eat and eat until they look like they’ll pop... mine are always looking for food! I usually feed mine a small amount of flakes in tho morning and then the sinking pellets go in at bed time so they have food overnight. I have catfish in my tank so they clean up any mess. As long as there’s not a loada of food left over then you could feed them until they don’t eat any more

Ok that makes sense, I figured they would wanna keep eating until they pop lol I might do what you do for feeding. Some flakes in a.m and sinking food in the afternoon. Thanks for the help

More likely, you are overfeeding them. If a lot of fish food get down to your gravel, cut down your feeding portion. You can do less feeding size x2/day. Or more feeding once a day.

The general rule thumb for feeding your fish is give them as much as they can eat in two minutes. This rule will get your fish obese. You may want to shorten it to 1 minute. Also, give your fish some green (I use peas) every once in a while.

Not much food gets to the bottom, they eat most of the food I give them. Sometimes they don't notice the food dropping or it drops to fast before getting a few

I usually add a small pinch of food, watch them eat it all, add another small pinch. By then a couple will fall to the floor so I stop feeding them. I tried zucchinI but they didnt go after it at all. I may try peas

How do you feed a BN pleco when there's a dwarf gourami in the tank?
Mine eats everything, always seems to be hungry.

My gourami sometimes sees the plecos on the wafer and scares them off so he can eat.
I tried some cucumber again and the plecos are interested this time and the gourami isn't ... yet

Make sure with the peas that you cut them small enough so the fishies won't choke. I've had success cutting them into 1/4ths and keeping them in a baggie in the freezer.

what I do for the peas is I just take some from the freezer and microwave them until they are squishy, then I squeeze the inner squishy part into the tank. They can't choke of something that is super squishy and falls apart in their mouth.

Sometimes its hard to feed bottom fish, when all the other fish keep eating everything especially silver dollars lol . A trick a learned that sometimes I do is feed the fish and as there eating ,quickly shut the light and throw in the pellets until its on the bottom then put the light back on and continue feeding as the fish will be focused on the top eating while the pellets are on the bottom.they still might go to the bottom but if there's enough in different areas its should be enough to feed the bottom fish.

I've read about doing that. It must work if you continue doing it lol

I might give that a try, I'll feed the fish then while they arnt looking (from what I can tell) I try to add a wafer to the back but they always seem to find it to be honest. I'm sure once my pleco grows he can really eat
